چکیده
(ii) idRn ∈ G, recall idRnT = T = T idRn for any T ∈ G (iii) If T ∈ G, then T is bijective and T−1 ∈ G Proof. (i) and (ii) are fairly easy exercises. For (iii), we have that T ∈ G is surjective by definition, so only need to check one to one. For x,y ∈ R, Tx = Ty =⇒ 0 = ‖Tx−Ty‖ = ‖x−y‖ =⇒ x = y. So T is bijective, and T−1 is surjective. T−1 is an isometry since for x,y ∈ R, ‖T−1x− T−1y‖ = ‖TT−1x− TT−1y‖ = ‖x− y‖. Lastly T−1(F ) = T−1(T (F )) = F . So T−1 ∈ G. ∗The following notes were based on Dr Daniel Chan’s MATH3711 lectures in semester 1, 2006

In specialized topics of aesthetics, structure and function, the buildings of Islamic architecture in Iran during certain periods, show the strong presence of intellectual sciences such as mathematics. The use of geometry as a part of the science of numerical mathematics, which in its intellectual position has complex calculations, indicates the connection of Islamic architects with the mathema...
متن کاملOn the asymptotics of the real solutions to the general sixth Painlevé equation
The mathematical and physical significance of the six Painlevé transcendents has been well established. In the last 20 to 30 years, many mathematicians have spent dramatic effort on studying the properties of these transcendents. Although it is the most complicated one among the six Painlevé equations, there have been many results about the sixth Painlevé transcendent. In fact, the asymptotics ...

The 2008 Workshop on Algorithms for Modern Massive Data Sets (MMDS 2008), sponsored by the NSF, DARPA, LinkedIn, and Yahoo!, was held last year at Stanford University, June 25–28, 2008. The goals of MMDS 2008 were (1) to explore novel techniques for modeling and analyzing massive, high-dimensional, and nonlinearly-structured scientific and internet data sets; and (2) to bring together computer ...
متن کاملSix Myths of Polynomial Interpolation and Quadrature
I t is a pleasure to o er this essay for Mathematics Today as a record of my Summer Lecture on 29 June 2011 at the Royal Society. Polynomials are as basic a topic as any in mathematics, and for numerical mathematicians like me, they are the starting point of numerical methods that in some cases go back centuries, like quadrature formulae for numerical integration and Newton iterations for findi...
